In 2009, RPA helped create a 10-year community sustainability plan for Bridgeport, Conn., that takes advantage of existing resources, including parks, seacoast and strong links to Amtrak and Metro-North to increase employment and improve quality of life. Since the plan’s adoption, the city and community groups have embraced its recommendations, increasing recycling by more than 70% and developing extensive renewable energy resources throughout Bridgeport’s neighborhoods. Bridgeport is now a hub for green jobs in Connecticut.
RPA's Connecticut office promotes smart and efficient land use practices, sound environmental policies and economic development that is connected to the transit network.
Our mission is to encourage long-range, inter-municipal planning that allows communities across the state to continue to grow and prosper while maintaining their quality of life. With an independent, regional perspective, RPA works to make Connecticut more competitive, fair and sustainable. We emphasize stimulating informed public debate and building coalitions around practical solutions.
Our recent initiatives include BGreen2020, Bridgeport's 10-year community sustainability initiative; transit-oriented development planning projects in Fairfield, Bridgeport and Stamford; and work to promote economic and social benefits from proposed transit projects in the Greater Hartford region.
