More than 600 of the Region's business, civic and community leaders gathered at the Waldorf-Astoria on Friday, April 16 for RPA's 14th Annual Regional Assembly. The day was devoted to discussion of plans for redeveloping the Far West Side of Midtown Manhattan, and featured a variety of speakers representing different points of view. The audience was treated to keynote addresses from Senator Charles Schumer and Peter Goldmark, as well as a lively plenary panel with Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff, Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, Max Bond, Lynne Sagalyn and Stephen Ross. In the coming weeks we will be providing more detailed information about the day's proceedings. For a more thorough introduction to the issues surrounding Far West Side development, you may read the series of reports that RPA put out in advance of the Assembly. The first paper looked at regional development needs, the second studied transportation needs and impacts, and the final paper studied the urban design implications, including a closer look at the stadium/convention center proposal.
