Stature: What is the initiative's framework? This division reflects an attempt to impose order on what is really a continuum of collaboration among landscape initiatives; Institution: commissions, councils, agencies, and legal compacts — anything that exists in federal, state, or local law with a specific landscape mandate. This includes partnerships created under federal or state legislation such as National Heritage Areas; and National Estuary Programs.; Partnership: government and/or non-governmental organizations that are formally working together, generally under a legal basis (ie: under an executive order but not under a legislative act). This category includes inter-municipal compact and other partnerships where an MOU between the existing parties guides the initiative. This category also includes distinct non-profit corporations created to bring together parties to protect a specific landscape.; Network: a more informal collaboration. This could be a coalition or alliance of non-profit and/or government agencies with a common agenda and shared information and resources. There is no legal document that binds the parties together.
