RPA was saddened to learn of the passing of Sue Baer last week. Sue was a pioneer in her field, becoming the first woman to take on numerous senior leadership roles at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. During her tenure, she managed several major facilities including the Lincoln Tunnel, the Port Authority Bus Terminal and all three major airports. Sue also stood out as one of the few senior executives with experience across almost all the Port Authority's operations. At RPA, we welcomed the breadth of her knowledge and her ability to weigh in on a wide scope of issues, including RPA's 2011 study on the region's airports.
After leaving the Port Authority and joining engineering and planning firm ARUP, Sue continued to engage with RPA as a member of our Fourth Regional Plan working group on transportation. Just as before, Sue brought together her colleagues in various disciplines to work with us on developing multimodal solutions for the plan. Sue represented the best of us and has left her mark on the profession and in the lives of those who were lucky enough to know her. She will be greatly missed.
