Regional Plan Association marks with great sadness the passing of board member John Zuccotti, who championed the vitality of New York City throughout his long and distinguished career. John’s extraordinary tenure in the public sector, as first deputy mayor, chair of the City Planning Commission and assistant to the HUD secretary, was matched by his influence in the private sector, especially his numerous civic activities.
At RPA, where John also was a member of our executive committee, we deeply appreciated his commitment to revitalizing communities and his attention to the quality of public spaces.
In meetings, John always acted with a sense of urgency and purpose, but he also made an effort to connect with people and hear everyone's point of view," said RPA President Tom Wright. "He always treated people well, and, of course, they would reciprocate in kind. He liked to share remarkable stories from his past and engage you in a warm and open way that came naturally to him. His keen insight was only exceeded by his generosity of spirit. We will greatly miss his advice, his wisdom and his friendship."
