This past week, the American Society of Landscape Architects recognized RPA's president emeritus and senior adviser Robert Yaro as an honorary member of the organization. Honorary membership is the one of the highest honors ASLA awards to non-landscape architects "in recognition of notable service to the profession." Yaro was recognized for his leadership of national and international regional planning initiatives that have addressed some of the most pressing issues in urban planning and landscape development.
Yaro was nominated by Amanda Burden, principal at Bloomberg Associates, Armando Carbonell, chair of the Department of Planning and Urban Form at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, Jane Cooke, director of the Fourth Regional Plan Campaign at RPA and Harry L. Dodson, FASLA of Dodson & Finkler Landscape Architecture and Planning. Other 2015 honorary members include Susan Chin of the Design Trust for Public Space, Charles McKinney of New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and Warrie Price of The Battery Conservancy.
