The development taking place around the convention center has increased the value of its land, noted Christopher Jones, vice president for research at the Regional Plan Association, an urban research and advocacy organization. He suggested that officials explore selling the Far West Side property and using the proceeds to build on other sites, such as the railyards in Queens’ Sunnyside area. “We still have the question of whether this is the right location for a large convention center in New York City because the area is much more residential than it used to be,” Mr. Jones said.
