Bridgeport's B-Green 2020

bgreen.pngB-Green 2020, launched by Executive Order from Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch in 2008, is a comprehensive program to decrease carbon emissions, green the City, promote green jobs and technology along with more widespread economic vitality, and ensure improved social and health benefits to its communities. RPA is the lead project manager working with the City and Bridgeport Regional Business Council to oversee the work of five technical subcommittees spanning the areas of Energy and Buildings; Land Use and Transportation; Green Jobs and Procurement; Water, Recycling, and Green Spaces; and Education and Outreach. Through the actions of the B-Green 2020 Initiative the City is poised to make tremendous strides towards becoming a 21st Century Green City, achieving a sustainable future with equal economic, social and environmental prosperity.

The B-Green Initiative involves over 100 advisory and technical committee members, collaborating to create a comprehensive sustainability plan that will reduce energy usage, clean up brownfields, address wastewater issues, parks, and more.  And not just at the city government level but throughout the community: businesses, homeowners, tenants and employees.

The full plan will be released later this fall. Members of Bridgeport's Conservation Corps (pictured) have already begun canvassing city neighborhoods to educate residents on energy efficiency and recycling.
