RPA's Robert Freudenberg today gave testimony on the Long Island Lighthouse Project, expressing enthusiastic support for the mixed-use project in the Nassau Hub, provided that transit connections be integrated and environmental standards exceed proposed standards. More than four decades ago RPA first proposed that the Nassau Hub become one of a network of regional centers, along with Stamford, White Plains, New Brunswick, Jersey City and others. Today these places have more than a million jobs and are engines of the metropolitan economy. If developed correctly, this project could become the catalyst for long-awaited development throughout the Hub area.
